Caroline J. Barnes’ law practice is primarily focused on United States Immigration and Nationality law. She is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but represents clients worldwide. Ms. Barnes offers many types of immigration services including but not limited to: family based immigration, business immigration, deportation defense, citizenship and naturalization, and deferred action/DREAM Act.

What sets Ms. Barnes’ practice apart from other law firms is the attention each client receives. Attention to detail is very important in the immigration process because one mistake can change the outcome of a case. In addition, Ms. Barnes’ use of technology allows her to provide a higher level of attention to each client, regardless of their location. Ms. Barnes offers in-person, phone, and Skype based consultations.

Ms. Barnes was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She obtained her bachelors degree from Louisiana State University graduating summa cum laude and her Juris Doctor and Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center. During her undergraduate years, she was a member of the LSU Honor’s college, Delta Gamma fraternity, and Kappa Tau Alpha (Mass Communication Honor Society).

During her law school career, Ms. Barnes gained significant experience in the practice of immigration law. She participated as a student attorney with the LSU Law Immigration Clinic and interned with Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge Immigration Legal Services. As a student attorney with the LSU Law Immigration Clinic, Ms. Barnes represented clients for family based immigration matters including U-Visas and VAWA.

During her time at the LSU Law Immigration Clinic, Ms. Barnes received the CALI award for the highest grade in her immigration course. As an intern at Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge Immigration Legal Services, she drafted legal memoranda on immigration issues, conducted client intake, and planned their annual “Citizenship Day” during which she taught a class on the naturalization process.

Ms. Barnes is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Baton Rouge Bar Association. She is also member in good standing of the state bar of Louisiana, and under rules and regulations of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, may represent clients nationwide.
